<image:title>Blog - A solution for Stilt Grass - Stilt Grass dying after spraying with Acclaim. Photo by Elizabeth Urbanski.</image:title>
<image:caption>Like many others in our area, our property sometimes seems completely overwhelmed by Stilt Grass, which is classified as an invasive species. According to the Rutgers Agricultural Extension, for many years, the only way to tackle it was mowing. That has been only partially successful for us, but recently I found a selective grass herbicide called Acclaim that seems very effective at keeping it down without touching turf grasses or ornamental plants. I’ve used it on the lawn, but it’s not suitable for use across the whole farm because we want to stay organic as much as possible.</image:caption>

<image:caption>We took a week away in Maine, spending some time hiking trails in Acadia National Park. While we were gone, the deer noticed our absence and now all our hostas are gone. Fortunately all of the plants flowered this year and none of the seed pods were eaten.</image:caption>

<image:title>Blog - Invasive Species - Spotted Lanternfly Nymph on Japanese Stilt Grass in Holmdel, NJ</image:title>
<image:caption>I’ve noticed, over the years, that the weeds come in waves, as one type finds a niche, is able to prosper, is attacked, and then displaced by another. Here we see, in a photo taken from the field, a spotted lantern fly nymph on Japanese stilt grass. One invasive species cohabiting with another, both ready to severely damage the native plants of New Jersey. Stilt grass is awful. It covers the land in a green fuzz which denies light to other ground cover plants, and then dies off leaving a stalky debris that doesn’t decompose over the winter. We have yet to see the true damage from the lantern fly, but it doesn’t look good right now.</image:caption>
